Manchester United Takes Premier Title Over Chelsea
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Manchester United clinched the Premier League title with two points over Chelsea as the Premier League ended season play yesterday.
United took the Premier League with a 2?0 win over Wigan. This ended their season with 87 points earned over 38 games. The star of the game was, not surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo, who brought his season total for Manchester to 42 half way into the match. Following the game, he gave journalists the impression that he aimed to break his own record with 50 for next season.
And while Chelsea entered play on Sunday level with United for first, their 1-1 draw with Bolton kept them from the raising the trophy. Described as 'gracious' by BBC Sport, Manager Avram Grant remained forward-looking about the defeat and positive about the way his team has played under his lead over the past two seasons. He complemented Sir Alex Ferguson for the success he's brought the United club before pointing in an unusually sportsmanlike gesture to next week's Champions League final against that very same Manchester United.
Both Chelsea and Man U fans will be crowding into Moscow on 21 May for the Champions Cup final to catch what many commentators are predicting will be this year?s most exciting match in British football.
